Gibson uses laughter fitness to help educate others on how to use laughter as a stress reliever.

The Oaks at Whitaker Glen launches a Young at Heart Program!

Residents from The Oaks at Whitaker Glen are Young at Heart! As part of our focus on keeping our residents independent, order we have established a Young at Heart Program. The program combines a variety of activities and services that address the physical, ask mental, and emotional health needs of our residents.

From a physical perspective, our full-time Fitness Director provides one-on-one strength training classes and teaches stretch & flexibility courses. We also offer yoga and will be adding tai chi to our list of classes soon. The newest addition to our fitness program is The The Oaks of Whitaker GlenWhitaker Glen Walking Club. Residents of all fitness levels can benefit from walking. Equipped with state-of-the-art digital pedometers, the residents are able to track the miles they walk and can see how they improve over time. The walking club enjoys trips to local parks, walking trails, and other nearby attractions. The club has really improved the residents’ sense of community and has provided another opportunity for socialization.

To meet the nutritional needs of our residents, we serve fresh, non-processed food in our dining room. Since we are a smaller retirement community, we have the luxury of offering a cook-to-order menu with daily specials from Grouper au Françoise to filet mignon salads. Homemade soups and a full salad bar are offered daily as well.

The Young at Heart program also includes existing supportive nursing services. Included in our residents’ monthly service fees are medication reminders, sick and well nurse visits, daily wellness calls, blood pressure clinics, and more. Future components of the program involve the addition of more supportive nurse services such as assistance with ADLs.
