You’re caught in the middle and time is running out. Mom is in the emergency room and doesn’t remember a thing about what meds she’s taking. But the ER doctor needs to know right now so he can figure out what’s happened to her. You wish you’d thought to ask, but who has time?
You’re not alone. According to a survey conducted for the Home Instead Senior Care® network, about half (49 percent) of future caregivers were unable to name any of the medications taken by their parents each day.
That’s why the Home Instead Senior Care network has created the Senior Emergency Kit information management tool and website, which both feature a medication tracker. These resources will help you track the medications your parent is taking, as well as the dosage, instructions and the name of the doctor who prescribed those meds.
This toolkit is just one of several resources in the Answering the Call program, designed to help you be better prepared for an emergency call that your loved one needs assistance. To learn more about the Senior Emergency Kit visit www.SeniorEmergencyKit.com or call your local Home Instead Senior Care office to request a copy.
