What Social Workers for Seniors Provide In Our Communities

By: Darleen Mahoney

As SeniorLivingGuide.com continues our roadshow throughout the southeast United States sponsoring luncheons to celebrate case managers and social workers that work tirelessly on the behalf of Seniors and older adults, touching on what services they provide is essential to understanding their overall contribution to our communities. This also allows our Seniors and their caregivers to know what services and beneficial programs are available to them and their loved ones.

Case Managers and Social WorkersTheir goal is to make sure their elderly patients’ needs are being met with services and programs that are available across the board. These services run a wide gamut, everything from helping seniors gain access to transportation, financial resources, medical care availability, in-home assistance services, food delivery services, and help with mental and social problems. They also protect our most vulnerable population from any person or business that may try to take advantage of them.

One of their biggest attributes is their ability to navigate complicated government programs. These programs include social services, local programs, healthcare, and legal services. They can help the elderly apply for services that they qualify for and even help obtain funding for elder care. They will also make sure that these services are delivered and minimize any hiccups along the way on behalf of the Senior.

Where can you find these resources? Because the Federal Government has mandated Area Agency on Aging facilities in every county/city. These agencies have professionals who hold vast knowledge on all things ‘social services for the elderly’ related.

These case managers and social workers are super heroes for many families and their loved ones! Providing the elderly with the right help that they need and having access to all that is available, managed by a true professional, is a benefit that should not be wasted. Visit  Area Agency on Aging to find help in your area!
