WILLIAMSBURG, Va., Oct. 13, 2011 –

WHO:             Sonja Landvogt, a former Army nurse and resident of Chambrel Williamsburg, a Brookdale Senior Living retirement community in Williamsburg, Va.

WHAT:           Landvogt will have her wish granted to honor her fellow veterans and reflect on her service by visiting the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at the Arlington National Cemetery through Brookdale Senior Living and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime (JBWOL)

WHEN:            Friday, Oct. 14 at 10:00 a.m.

WHERE:        Women in Military Service for America Memorial, entrance of the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

SUMMARY:   As a retired Army nurse, Landvogt remains dedicated to providing service to her country at 89-years-old.  She is a charter member of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation and stays active in local military causes.

Landvogt dedicated much of her life to the nursing profession, and continues to give service back to her community.  She participates in her Lutheran church, Women’s Club and Ambassador’s club at Chambrel Williamsburg.

Her wish is to visit the Women in Military Service for America Memorial to pay tribute to her fellow nurses and reflect on her time as an Army nurse.  Brookdale Senior Living and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime are making Landvogt’s wish come true.

On Thursday, Oct. 13, Landvogt, accompanied by her son, Tom, will travel to Arlington, Va. for Landvogt’s wish experience.  On Friday, Oct. 14, Landvogt will visit the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at the Arlington National Cemetery.

At the memorial, Brig. General Vaught, president of the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, will honor Landvogt with the presentation of a World War II victory medal and an honorary certificate.  There will also be a flag unfurling ceremony, in which she will receive the flag and a certificate. After the presentation, Landvogt will have a VIP tour of the Memorial by Melissa Bohan, public affairs officer of the Memorial.  She will also tour the rest of the Arlington National Cemetery and visit the Nurses’ Memorial.

Landvogt wish will be granted through Brookdale and JBWOL, a nonprofit organization dedicated to granting life-enriching wishes to older Americans.  Brookdale Senior Living has sponsored this and many other wishes granted by JBWOL.

In honor of Veterans Day, Brookdale invited veteran residents to submit wishes related to their war experiences.  To request her wish, Landvogt filled out a wish application explaining an experience she would like to have fulfilled.  Brookdale residents are encouraged to think about how that experience relates to one or more dimensions of the company’s Optimum Life® platform.  The six dimensions of Optimum Life are emotional, social, physical, intellectual, spiritual and purposeful.

Brookdale’s Optimum Life® platform is geared toward cultivating whole-person wellness through fulfillment in the six key dimensions. Both Brookdale and Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime provide a helping hand in making some of the dreams of Brookdale’s residents come true.  Residents at Brookdale Senior Living communities nationwide are invited to share and submit their wishes to Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime.
